A LOST GENERATION & WHAT WE MUST DO
The COVID-19 pandemic has hit different strata of society in distinctively catastrophic ways. Impaired by disruption of education in their formative years, the young ones are the most affected by catastrophic impacts affecting an entire generation.
While educational institutions and schools have shifted to the online mode, it has been difficult for them to engage students from the disadvantageous segment of society. Lack of access to resources is accelerating inequalities and fueling a shadow pandemic.
Children living in the shadow of COVID-19 because of school closures face a heightened risk of domestic violence and psychosocial issues, sexual and gender-based violence, child marriage and child labour.
A more effective, equitable, and resilient vision of education is urgently required.
Green Beref Organization, a national NGO, has been working all across the nation to use efficient and inclusive remote learning technology to give its student beneficiaries unrestricted education. Green Beref Organization devotes all of its efforts to ensuring that disadvantaged kids return to school and continue receiving a high standard of education in its chosen areas in an effort to minimise the loss of learning caused by COVID-19.
Only 8.9% of India's poorest households have access to the Internet, which is necessary for distance learning. Green Beref Organization built Adapt Impact Community Learning Centers in accordance with COVID safety regulations to address the issue for poor communities. With iPads and laptops that are connected to high-speed Internet, these centres provide community members with safe learning environments that are technologically enabled.
In Delhi and Bengaluru, our adopted communities are already seeing a difference thanks to Adapt Impact Centers. Despite overwhelming obstacles, students in grades 2 through 8 from underprivileged and economically poorer parts of society are able to complete their education.
The students at these centres receive counselling for their emotional wellbeing in addition to their schooling as part of Green Beref Organization's all-encompassing approach. Green Beref Organization now operates two centres and is seeking to expand its reach.
Global development aspirations have been hampered by disruptions in schooling. This is one of the worst shocks to education systems, especially when coupled with the looming recession. Global economic instability will exacerbate poverty and result in a crisis in human development that will last long after the epidemic.
Now is the moment to take action! ensure that all students have access to education at all times and places by reimagining and rebuilding educational systems.
