Education in COVID times: A multi-front issue

The COVID-19 pandemic's school closings have plunged less fortunate kids and families into multifaceted poverty. Their access to healthcare, nutrition, clean water, friendship, and outdoor play have all been negatively impacted by the closure of the schools, in addition to their access to education.

Loss of money and social safety nets has led to an increase in child labour, child marriages, domestic violence, and sexual abuse. It has also had an influence on children's mental health and is causing negative spirals that could endanger a whole generation.

Since the start of the epidemic, families of lower socioeconomic standing have had to live in a locked-down environment. The child's education frequently suffers as a result of mounting strain to meet the family's basic necessities, starting a downward spiral that has serious consequences for the child, the home, and the nation as a whole.

We must step up our efforts to assure the recovery of the economy, the body, the mind, and the family. Without assistance, parents and other family members in disadvantaged areas will be unable to care for and protect the children in their households.

Additionally, there is a critical need to provide timely information and direction to communities about government initiatives, benefits, and support in order to help them deal with the new demands and realities brought on by COVID-19.

The COVID-19 has brought the less fortunate families to the verge of despair for the future of their children. The gaps in the areas of economics, health, mental health, education, and learning are serious and critical. A child born into an impoverished home can only be given a chance and given hope through a comprehensive strategy.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Green Beref Organization's dedication to its adopted communities has taken the form of a comprehensive and successful COVID response to guarantee the safety and support of children and their families.

Our frontline staff reached out and made connections with the communities we adopted, learning about the difficulties that arose practically daily. Utilizing social media, direct messaging, and phone conversations, the team established an active network to find out where assistance was required and to spread knowledge to empower communities.

The poor received basic necessities including dry food, hygiene kits, and fundamental items like medicines.

Green Beref Organization educators initiated online classes and phone outreach to address the problem of keeping kids in school at home. Together, they create a schedule, engage in open dialogue, and lead online activities for the kids. In addition, they interact with the parents to offer advice on how to support homeschooling.

For kids without access to distance learning, Green Beref Organization built two "ADAPT Impact: digitally-enabled community learning centres." The centres offer kid-friendly settings that are close to their houses and have access to the internet. Professionals with a solid track record run the centres and conduct high-quality, culturally sensitive programming, guaranteeing the children's health, safety, and continuity of education.

As part of the comprehensive COVID response approach, we assist communities by providing life skills training and mental wellbeing seminars delivered by psychological counsellors who are properly trained and competent. This helps the kid and community handle new difficulties and developing realities.
